Yield: 8 pizza sticks
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Serve these crispy pizza sticks with marinara sauce, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce.
8 mozzarella sticks – cut in half (string cheese)
16 slices pizza pepperoni (or filling of your choice)
1 jar pizza sauce (or sauce of your choice)
8 wonton wrappers
Sm amt of water or/
Egg and milk mixed for egg wash (optional)
Oil, for frying
To assemble pizza sticks, place a wonton wrapper on the counter in a diamond shape. Put 1 tsp of sauce in middle of wrapper (too much sauce will cause the wrap to rip during the cooking process) Place the meat and string cheese on top of sauce. Wet the edges of wrapper with water or egg wash. Roll up, starting at the corner, tucking in the left and right sides of the wonton wrappers. Make sure that there are no rips or tears in the wonton wrapper or the filling will come oozing out. Secure the edges of the wonton wrappers with a bit of water if needed.
If using frying pan:
Heat oil over medium-high heat. Use just enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan. No need to submerge the entire pizza sticks in oil. To test whether the oil is hot enough, dip the end of the on stick in the oil. If it sizzles, it’s ready. Place pizza sticks in the oil.
If deep frying:
Heat oil in deep fryer over medium- high heat. To test To test whether the oil is hot enough, dip the end of the on stick in the oil. If it sizzles, it’s ready. Place pizza sticks in the oil.
Important: Do not overcrowd them, as they will expand
Turn pizza stick over if needed, to cook evenly on both sides.
Only cook until light golden brown. If cooked too long, the cheese will explode, and tear through the wrapper, and all the fillings will spill out, immediately ruining your oil.
Remove from pan and place on a plate covered with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serve with marinara sauce, ranch sauce or dipping sauce of your choice.
